Hi, Alyssa! Welcome!
Good morning everyone. Thank you so much for joining me on this Monday morning or afternoon for some of you, um, for our swanee information session. I'm sorry that we weren't able to have you on campus with us today, but I'm grateful that you've taken the time to sign on to this virtual visit option to learn more about Swanee and we're going to spend around 30 minutes talking about the institution.
From a general perspective, an academic perspective. We're also going to talk a little bit about outcomes, and then also to the admission process. I'd also like to introduce myself to you. I'm Nancy York, Miss Senior Assistant Director of admission, and I've worked for the institution for about 9 years, and I'm also Swanee graduate. I graduated from Saloni in 2011, so really excited again to be here with you today.
And and I'm hopefully you'll find this information to be informative. I know it can't necessarily replace I campus visit, but hopeful again that you'll get some helpful info and to help you learn more about Swanee. So we're going to go ahead and get started if you visited Swanee before, I'd like for you to try and kind of keep an image of the mountain in your mind as we're going through this information. And for those of you who haven't visited before, I'm going to start by.
Meaning of a bit of a picture of campus for you. And then afterwards I'd encourage you to go to the admission website to our virtual visit options to see a campus tour. Photographs of Saloni and lots of different virtual visit options as well, so you can kind of round out that virtually visit experience like you might on campus. Alright, so Sony is a small liberal arts college, were located in Tennessee right between Nashville and Chattanooga.
We're located on the Cumberland Plateau, which you can see depicted here. In this photograph. We are on a 13,000 acre campus, which makes us the second largest college campus in the country. We have about 60 miles of trails and lots and lots of lakes, caves and beautiful overlooks for you to see. So if you have a visited campus before, I'd encourage you to maybe Google Greensview or Morgan steep, or perhaps the Swanee Cross.
And then add celani to that Google search and you'll be able to see some of those overlooks for yourself. But hopefully this photograph will give you a bit of an idea what campus looks like, and Fulford Hall, which is where we would typically be doing this information session, is situated right at the heart kind of central campus. So in that photograph there you can kind of visualize that you'd be on the left hand side of that street if we were all in the office. Like I said, We're a small institution. We only have about 1700 students.
But they're coming from all over the country and all over the world. We have students right now from 45 different States and 27 different countries, and actually about 78% of our students are coming from out of state, so a really diverse student body, an I certainly loved the experience as a student of having a chance to interact with students from all over the world. And if you think about the fact that Swanee is located in rural Tennessee on top of the Cumberland Plateau, it's.
We need to think about all of the diversity that exists there because of Swanee. Because of our campus, I always like to to mention as well, kind of the intention aliti of Swanee being a smaller size institution. You'll see there that we have about 450 students in this year's first year class and Saloni is intentionally small because we want to ensure that students have really close interactions with faculty members. Are student faculty ratio is about.
10 to one and the average class size is around 17 students. A lot of times in classes you'll see students and faculty members just sitting around a conference room table. Having a conversation for 50 minutes or for an hour and 15 minutes depending on the day of the week and the type of class that you're taking an outside the classroom to faculty members and students are really engaging within the community, and again, really intentional ways so.
The size of the institution fosters a sense of community. I think that makes the Swanee experience a really positive one for students. And we'll talk a little bit more about the community as as we continue throughout this information session. But Sony is also an Episcopal institution. We are owned by 28 Diocese of the Episcopal Church, and we're the only institution in the United States that's owned by Diocese of the Episcopal Church, and the University really has a strong commitment to creating.
And sustaining an intercultural community and one that includes an empowers all of its members. And that certainly is the heart and ethos of the Episcopal tradition. But also something that's Lonnie incorporates just into its daily life. And of course, the mission of the institutions that something that's really important to us. That idea of inclusion and diversity and fostering open conversations on campus. I'm hopeful about it. You're looking at Swanee, at least in part because of the academic reputation that we have.
And Swanee Ann is committed to educating students for an ever changing world. An also evolving job market and we really strive to teach our students to be the most eloquent speakers, best critical thinkers. An articulate writers that they can be. And much of that is at the heart and core of a traditional liberal arts education. But it's something that Swanee does really well. And really, those those three things. So becoming an eloquent speaker, the best critical thinker that you can be, Anna.
We articulate writer. Those are going to be 3 things that will stand you in good stead after graduation, regardless of what you choose to do after graduation. So I'm going to take a few moments here to walk you through a couple of slides related to the academic experience at Suwannee, so we'll talk a little bit about what you'll do in your first 2 years at Saloni. What you'll do after you declare your major, and then we'll talk a little bit about the Swanee pledge, and then what students are doing outside of the classroom as well to enhance their.
Academic and Swanee experience. So one of the hallmarks I think of Swannies general education requirements and what you'll be doing during your first 2 years is that we don't have a prescribed curriculum for students in the sense that we do not have any specific classes that students must take in order to graduate, but rather we have eight learning objectives that students will work through during their first 2 years that really emphasize the importance of interdisciplinary study.
And then also to the idea that we want students to take a variety of different courses to develop a broad base of knowledge. Kind of in depth and breath that regardless of what you ultimately choose to major in, will help kind of enhance that course of study. And certainly I think make you a much more educated person in the long run and then also to more marketable as a professional and also to potentially as a graduate student. Depending on what your post graduation goals.
Are uhm, so one example of that is to fill your, you know, let's say English requirement. You might take an introductory course within the English Department focused on Shakespeare. That's a class that I took, and it's a class that many Swanee students will take. But you might also take an American literature course through the Department of American studies. You might also take a poetry class or something of the like, so allowing students an opportunity to really tailor their curriculums in ways that.
You know will interest them as individuals and help them grow in the direction they like to, and we find that when students enjoy the classes that they're taking and are able to take ownership in, the selection of those classes that more than likely as a student you're going to do better in those classes because you're excited about the material that you're studying and what you're learning as well. So that's what you'll be doing during her first 2 years is kind of navigating through that General Education Curriculum and also to the ideas that by taking a variety of different.
Horses, you're either going to be more affirmed in perhaps what you know you'd like to study, or have an opportunity to determine what you'd like to study and explore various options so that you can make that decision. Because at the end of your sophomore year, that's when you will declare your major. Some of our students will come into Swanee, knowing exactly what they want to study. Some students will be like I was coming out of high school, having absolutely no idea what you want to study or what I wanted to study, and so having that opportunity as.
You know a a freshman and sophomore to explore a variety of different subjects was really helpful for me, and so then, ultimately, at the end of my sophomore year, I declared as a history major and the classical languages minor, and then actually surprised me a little bit surprised my parents, but it was because of having that opportunity to really explore during during those first 2 years that I discovered what I was really, truly passionate about and interested in. You'll see.
Under a full list of our majors and minors, we offer 43 different miners and 30 Seven different majors. Right now, are most populated majors. Are psychology, English, economics, international global studies and biology, and then also to two of our most recent recently added majors. Are neuroscience and finance. You'll also note as well that we have five different pre professional programs so related to business, education, engineering, law and then.
Medison are pre health and those pre professional programs can pair with any course of study that you choose. So for example you can be on a pre health track and be preparing to go on to medical school while also being an English major. Or you can study finance. It's Lonnie or you can study business within that business preprofessional program and be a history major or an economics major. You don't have to be a finance major or a business minor in order to do that, although you certainly can.
You'll also see some other areas of study as well. Sicuani offers a wide variety of different language options. We also actually have a language immersion program on campus where you can live in the French, German, Russian, Spanish and Italian House where you have to speak that language 100% of the time, but really gives you a great opportunity to enhance language skills that you already have or continuing to develop as you are studying those various languages. But you'll also see that we offer languages like.
Arabic anan Chinese as well, even Swahili, and then to the right of that, you'll see some special celani program. So whether it's European studies or this Lonnie at Yale program for our psychology students or maybe even our semester in Paris in Spain, so some really neat opportunities for students across the board and afterwards. If you have any specific questions about majors or programs, I'm happy to dive into that as well.
Alright, so moving forward here.
If I can get these slides to work here we go. OK, so the Swanee pledge I always like to highlight this before diving into information about what students are doing kind of outside of that classroom experience and how they are enhancing their kind of educational experience outside of the classroom. Sohani commits to do three things for students, so the Swanee pledge basically, in essence I'm has three tenants, so one is that.
We pledged that Swanee students will graduate with one major an for years, and if you don't, will pay for up to an additional year of study time for you to complete that degree. We also provide access to a semester long study abroad program at no additional tuition cost, and right now, swanee has 200. So you abroad programs and in the past few years students have gone to as much as 64 different countries. So lots of study abroad opportunities there.
And it really makes a huge difference for students to know too that something that they can do without or without kind of adding an additional financial burden to their college experience. So really making that affordable for our students and then also to, we pledged, provide support for an improved unpaid internship or research experience for our students. So, in essence, if you have a worthwhile opportunity and need funding
Will help it help you make it happen and last year swanee distributed over $600,000 in funding for students to go to independent research. An intern ships over the summer, so a huge commitment there to our students and wanting to make sure that we're enhancing their academic experience and also to social Development. And as many ways as we possibly can.
So kind of continuing at that theme. We've talked a little bit about, study away. An intern ships, but going back to research as well, students are also doing research with faculty members on campus and you may have seen on that first slide that gave an overview of saloni that no Swanee classes taught by a graduate teaching assistant. All of them are taught by Swanee faculty members, and in fact Sony does not have a Graduate School within the College of Arts and Sciences, so.
Students are having an opportunity to truly engage with faculty members. And if you're a stand out in your Department and are interested in doing research, it's very likely that you'll have an opportunity to do that. So having research opportunities and developing those relationships with faculty members in a really close way are not just reserved for students that are going to larger institutions or research one level institutions. I had several experiences aswani student and opportunities to do research with faculty members.
Whether it was partnering with faculty members on research, they were doing an additional E 2 having professors support me in individual research interests and pursuits. An independent study as well. One example as I was actually I applied and was selected to do Abil Research Fellowship abroad between my junior and senior year. So I actually went to Germany and Poland's to study Holocaust memory, an memorialization and the bill is designed for social science majors to go to a non.
Non English speaking country for eight to 10 weeks and do independent research. And then you come back to campus at the end of that experience and you've written a paper over the summer and you present that paper to the Swanee community. So whether not it students, faculty or staff, but also the Greater Celani community as well, and so it's need to come back and share that research with the community. And it's a fully funded experience. I was awarded $4000 to go and do that work, and I'm sharing my own personal experiences with you. Just because today in this setting.
You won't have a chance to interact with the current student. Typically you would go on tour after this information session, so since you're not able to do that right now, I'm trying to insert some of my experiences as we go along. So. But In addition to research and studying away and internships there a host of civic engagement opportunities as well for students to participate in to enhance their swanee experience, but also to I want to kind of quickly go back to the idea of painting a picture of Saloni.
For you, Anne, just reiterate what a close community we have an to me. One of the things that really makes one unique and stand out amongst other small liberal arts institutions and just colleges and universities in general is that there really is no separation between celani, the University or the college and the town of Swanee are the community in which were situated. So in fact our vice chancellor or what some other institutions might call it president is always the mayor of Swanee as well.
So again, giving you a practical representation of how the community and University are really in many ways one in the same and have a symbiotic relationship and from a practical perspective as well. Actually students have opportunities to be on Sony's Town Council, so there's always a seat on the town council available for Swanee students are. Students are also engaging within the community as firefighters are local fire Department is a student run Volunteer Fire Department, so you might have a chance to.
Give back to the community, engage and serve, and that way we also have students at Swanee who will choose to be Bonner leaders or apply to be a Bonner leader. As an incoming first year student, those students are committing to doing 8 to 10 hours of service per week for their four years at Swanee and their variety of different areas in which students will choose to kind of engage in and lots of different community partners that will work with. So whether those topics relate to public health or the environment or education, or.
Business or finance? Lots of opportunities for students to pursue their passions related to civic engagement and maybe also social justice, but also to kind of enhance their experience and partner with local communities. Most importantly to determine needs and create plans of action to help support those communities.
All right, so we've talked a little bit about what students are doing in the classroom and outside of the classroom. But I also want to share some outcomes. So how is Swanee preparing students to be successful after they graduate? So now what those students are doing? So for the graduating class of 2018, you can see some statistics there about what students were doing right after graduation, and some of the careers that they were moving into an we're looking at the class of 2018 because that is the class that we have complete data force some.
I'm soon will have an updated information about what the class of 2019 is doing but for now This is why you're looking at the class of 2018 and I can tell you too that over 97% of the graduating class of 2018 where either in Graduate School or employed within 6 months of graduation so a really strong representation of the investment that Sony is making in its students to ensure that students are able to be successful and pursue those things that they're passionate about after graduation.
But I always like to just to reiterate the fact that what is student studies during college or during their University experience with their salon experience does not have to dictate necessarily what they do after graduation. Remember, I previously mentioned that we have students who are studying more interested in pre health or business who will study English or his.
Siri or theater and still go on to pursue these very professional careers and Graduate School opportunities as well. And you'll see here that our top career fields for alumni are education law, medison and finance. And, as you noted earlier, we don't offer a major in law or certainly in Medison either. So even with that liberal arts education, those three things going back to critical thinking, writing, and public speaking, or truly equipping students to be successful in these.
Areas and certainly many, many other areas because we're creating and helping develop students who are going to be flexible, and that's really what professionals are looking for. People who are hiring students and hiring professionals they want to have employees who are flexible who can be great team players and work well in a team. And people that are willing to change an kind of grow with the Times as different fields of study evolve thinking. For example, about the field of technology and.
All that's changing every day and so something to think about there wanting to make sure that you're not just learning how to do one thing, but learning how to do a variety of things well.
I also want to mention 2 before I move on to the application process that there are some other experiences that students will pursue as well. So we've had a 26 road scholars, 47 Watson Fellows, and then 34 NCAA postgraduate scholars. So In addition to continuing on to kind of professional life, are going on to Graduate School after graduating from Swanee, we have students that are pursuing these really outstanding world class opportunities.
After graduation as well. So certainly again a representation of how Swanee is preparing students to be successful after graduation and to be very competitive for some of the most highly regarded postgraduate fellowships and internship opportunities around the world.
Alright, so just to wrap it up again before moving on to the application process, we've talked a little bit about the domain. We talked about community and we've talked about tradition and you know, I always tell students when I'm. This is the best thing that I can equate. Kind of this experience too. As well as admission counselor. I'm traveling and meeting with students in my territory, so Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma students. I always say you really have to get to Saloni to see it to fully understand it.
And well I think that that's still very much true. I also believe that you can do that virtually so I really encourage you to explore all of our different virtual visit options right now that are all published on our website, so and of course. This is an example of them so you can really start to get a Broadview of what Sony has to offer and just from my own personal experiences to share at this point, I can tell you that when I was looking at colleges and universities so on, he was not a school that was at the top of my list.
I grew up in eastern North Carolina and my father was, uh, a staff member and a professor at a University there, and so I'd grown up and a very large school kind of environment. And that is kind of what I would imagine for myself. Going to a large state institution. I never really thought about small liberal arts colleges or how that type of environment might be a good fit for me. And I'm very happy that my dad. I'm kind of put Swanee on my list along with.
A couple other small liberal arts colleges you know. Parents know best right so wisely realizing that perhaps a small school was going to be the best environment for me. And when I visited celani, I was completely charmed by the domain. The landscape, really, the Bee of the place, and I'm a runner and actually ran cross country and track it Swanee and being able to run on the trails and be able to sit. As you can see in this photo here above the.
Domain, uhm, you can see that there's some beautiful overlooks where I would be able to stop on a run and I'm really kind of soak in that landscape. But also too. I was really just taking it back at the way that students and faculty members engaged with each other and not just in the classroom but also outside of the classroom as well. I mentioned right off the bat in this session, the importance that Swanee places on community and I was able to see that simply even within a 24 hour overnight visit.
That's money sitting in a classroom, but also eating in the dining Hall and seeing faculty members and students eating together, taking a walk down to the village, and seeing community members and students engaging. I realized that I wasn't simply going to be a college student, but I was going to also be an active participant in a community, an living in a place where that was really something where there was an emphasis on it. It's put out a premium, so for me, the place.
And the community and the relationships that I knew I'd be able to develop really sold me on Swanee and, uhm, I imagine that if you've done some campus visits already or when you do them, You'll get a gut feeling about an institution and whether or not it might be the right fit for you. And that's what I got it swanee. And those are some of the reasons why.
All right, so if we have any seniors with us today, I don't want to say check out. But you know this is this will be hopefully old news for you and you can sit back and relax for a moment before we jump into questions. But for those of you who are maybe sophomores or juniors or just starting this process, I'm going to take just a few moments to walk you through the Swanee application process and then give you some information about financial aid and scholarships as well. And then afterwards we will open it up for.
Alright, so Sony is a common app school. It's actually the only way that you can apply to Swanee, so were common app exclusive. It is free to apply an we don't have a writing supplement so this makes it very easy to apply to Swanee.
We're reviewing applications. We take a holistic approach to that review, so we're looking at everything that a student submits from your application, which includes your essay and your extracurriculars, but also the two recommendations that you'll be required to submit, one from a teacher and one from a college counselor will all sort of your transcript, and we're looking for rigor of curriculum. So have you taken the most rigorous curriculum that your school offers? And then also for positive trends in grades as well? Wanting to see that you're doing a little bit better?
Every year of your high school career, but also recognizing two that we are only looking at your academic performance and your transcript within the context of your institution. So never comparing one student from one institution to a student at another, again just within the context of your school. We also will review your test scores if you choose to submit them. An. I mentioned that because Saloni is a test optional school, we do not require that students submit standardized test scores and about 25% of our applicant pool last year chose to be test optional.
You'll see here the middle 50% for RAC tea an Rs 80. So for the AC T between a 27 to a 32 and that is Super scored and then the same for the essay Tees. So uh 1252 of 1390 Super Sport. If you think that test optional maybe a good route for you to take. Think of it this way. If you believe that your test scores are not an accurate representation of your academic ability, don't feel like you need to submit those scores. What we're going to do instead is just simply look at the other.
Information that you provided to us and just pretend like those scores don't exist, 'cause it's not information that will have. It certainly does not put a disadvantage during the admission process. It's just piece of information that will not be a part of your story or part of your application, and that is certainly OK. You also see that the average GPA for a student is around 374 and our acceptance rate was about 54% this past year.
Where is deadlines and other things of the like? We have two early decision deadlines in early action deadline and then regular decision. So early action in regular decision function very similarly there just separated by two months of December 1st for early action and then February 1st for regular decision.
Early decision though, is a little bit different. It's a binding decision deadline, so if you apply early decision one or early decision two, which are exactly the same, again just separated by a month, this time if you're accepted, you are committing to attend the following year. So early decision is really designed for students who are 100% sure that Swanee or any institution you're applying early decision to is the school that you'd like to go. Because again, if you are admitted, we expect that you'll attend and that should be really exciting thing. It's.
Provide students an opportunity to apply early, and if you're applying early, decision one to Swanee you have a decision back to you actually before Christmas, so it has the potential to be a really nice Christmas gift for you and also your family too. As far as financial aid is concerned, we do require the fasten the CSS S profile if you're interested in applying for need based aid. If you're interested in scholarships, every student that applies to Swanee is automatically considered for the full extent of our scholarships and.
Those range from $5000 to full. Tuition room and board and last year Celani Order awarded around $25,000 in Gift Aid.
Even then, 85% of incoming freshmen received some sort of aid to attend Swanee, and it's also important to note as well that Saloni does meet 100% of demonstrated need. So through scholarships, grants and loans, swanee is making our institution Anna Swanee experience as a sport, affordable as possible. For as many students as possible. So for those students who really thrive at Swanee.
Those students that want to be a part of our community and that we feel will be a good fit.
All right, so we've talked about a good bit here, but I'd like to open it up for questions related to anything I have talked about or haven't talked about today. Or if you have other questions about the institution or the admission process, I'm happy to answer answer those and you'll see that there is a question box here, or a place where you can type a message in to send it over to me.

Is greek life important on sewanee's campus?
Alright, so we have a question here from OK perfect. So is Greek life important to Swanee's campus? It's certainly an experience that you can be a part of. If you would like to be in about 60% of our students are involved in Greek life, there are a few things that makes one in Greek life. I think special and maybe even unique. So first of all we have an open Greek community, meaning that every student saloni is invited to all the different functions that happen through this organizations.
Um with the exception of a formal events. It's a very inclusive community, I was not Greek at Swanee. Actually, it was not a member of a sorority and I always felt very included within the community. I didn't feel like I was excluded from any anything that was happening within that community or those organizations. But we also have a delayed rush system so students at the very earliest are rushing the second semester of their freshman year so giving you a full semester to really kind of immerse yourself within the community and figure out whether or not.
You like for Greek life to be a part of your experience and then finally our Greek system is non residential so again kind of highlighting the inclusive nature of the community rather than it being an exclusive one. So it certainly can be a part of your experience. But there are plenty of students. Almost half of our students will choose not to be Greek, who still have exceptionally positive experiences at flying.
This is actually been really fun for me, you know, uhm, I typically I live in New Orleans, LA actually, and work remotely for the institution. It was a transition I made about two years ago after working on Swannies campus for a number of years. So being at home and working from home is not so different to me since the institution is had to close temporarily to visitors. But it's still nice to be able to even virtually connect with folks, so again, happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Do a lot of students from Sewanee the town end up at the university?
Alright, so do a lot of students from Swanee the town and about the University. So there is a high school that's located within salon called Saint Andrews Swanee. It's a boarding and day school and we certainly do have students from Saint Andrews who will choose to enroll at Swanee. Tony is a really small community though, so not as as many students as perhaps students coming from other cities who have.
Colleges and universities in their town might, but we do have students from local areas who won roll and certainly within kind of a broader radius within kind of East Tennessee in Middle Tennessee will choose to enroll and again about 18% of our students, 22% sorry of our students are from the state of Tennessee, so we do have some an absolutely even more from East Tennessee in Middle Tennessee as well.

Are there any majors or departments that are considered stronger than others at Sewanee?
Alright, so are there any majors or departments that are considered stronger than others at Swanee? So from my personal experience and also professional experience, I wouldn't say that there any major departments that are stronger than another at Swanee. But again, highlighting some of those majors or department's that offer those majors that are particularly popular among our students in psychology, biology, international and global studies.
Um economics, English and then neuroscience in finance. So In addition to that, saloni is home to an incredible theater program that's actually endowed through the state of Tennessee Williams. We have opportunities for theater said that students to study in New York and actually one of my former classmates recently. I guess over the past five or six years, maybe it has been playing Raul in the traveling Broadway production of the family of the opera.
So really great theater program that produces some excellent actors and performers. Additionally, an outstanding music program as well, so Performing Arts and art in general and then also to mentioning again the language program that Saloni offers two and highlighting that immersion program that we have within our language Department as well. So, but I think that regardless of what you choose to study at Swanee, you'll find that you're really going to be prepared to go on and be successful within those various.
Alright, so any additional questions?

More specifically, what if an applicant does not have a relationship with their college counselor? What if a student has never even met said counselor?
OK, alright so more specifically, what if an applicant does not have a relationship with their college counselor? What if a student has never even met said counselor? That is a great question and that is actually a question that really related to me as a senior in high school I didn't even know that I had a college counselor as a senior in high school I went to a really, really large public school and that was just not something that was a part of my experience or really, to my knowledge, the experience of many of my classmates and so.
If you intend to school that you know is a larger high school where maybe you haven't developed a relationship with the counselor, maybe even just to school in general where you haven't had an opportunity to develop that relationship, that's OK. Your counselor will need to submit what's called a School Report, and so every college counselor will do that through the common application Oregon, potentially through Naviance.
Which will then kind of feed into the common application, but that's where they will submit your transcript and also complete some basic information about the demographics of your school. Within that they have an opportunity to write a brief recommendation or attach a recommendation letter, but there doesn't have to be a recommendation attached in order to submit that form, so I certainly read a number of applications every year that will not have a recommendation attached, and we certainly do not hold that against a student. And as always, if we feel like we need additional information, will always reach out to you as a student.
Just to see if there might be a way that we could secure that information so we do require that School Report, but certainly understand that not every student is going to be able to have a personal recommendation letter written by their college counselor, and that's where that teacher recommendation really comes into play and will be even more important than it already is. You can certainly also to submit more than two recommendation letters, so maybe if you have a college counselor who is not able to write a recommendation or you haven't developed that relationship.
You can certainly ask another teacher to write a recommendation letter for you, but it also encourage you to, even if you haven't had a chance to meet with your college counselor yet and you know there is a college counseling office at your school I would encourage you as a senior, even as a junior, just to schedule time with that person. Get to know them and just take the time to try and develop that relationship if you can.
Yeah, that that question definitely makes me think about or think back to my own college admission experience.

How is Sewanee approaching the grading system during covoid-19?
All right, any final questions? I don't want to be the only thing that's standing between you and lunch good.
Let's see, alright. So how is celani approaching the grading system during Kovid Night team? OK, so I'd ask that maybe apply some clarification. So do you mean as far as the grading system for incoming high school students or students that will be applying to Swanee **** mean grading system for our current students?
Sorry to ask for that clarification, just want to make sure I'm answering it in the way that you are asking.
OK, well go ahead and just until I see a response from you. Just go ahead and answer it from a perspective student perspective so we understand that especially now in light of COVID-19 and all the transition that schools are having to go through only these are unprecedented times. So he's going to be flexible. So we have schools that are going to pass fail grading systems.

Probably current student, I
We understand that and we plan to work with students and schools as we all figure out what grades and transcripts will look like moving forward so you can expect something to be as flexible as we can be about reviewing those transcripts and looking at grades and this upcoming admissions like cool.
Ah OK so current student also will answer that so this is certainly again something that's evolving and right now because swanee had gotten through most of the semester before all of this happened and swanee wasn't able to welcome students back to campus for classes in a classroom after spring break all of those classes are being conducted online but students will be able to finish up the semester completing online work even if.
Perhaps the the content or the way that assignments are being structured may have changed or may have evolved from what they might have looked like before but it's my understanding that grades will still be assigned in the same way that they would have been previously although that may vary from faculty member to faculty member but I have not heard anything about swanee simply moving to a pass fail system so can't answer that with absolute certainty but to my knowledge grades will still be awarded in the same way that they have.
Alright just give it a couple more seconds for any final questions.
And this session will actually also potentially be posted online and then there's also a previous information session that I did last week that was recorded in is on the website now as well so if you missed any information today and want to go back to something you certainly have a video that you can go back and watch and then will be offering these every week moving forward an there lots of other different virtual visit options too so you can sign up for a student panel if you'd like to do that and then there are other opportunities to to connect with alums and connect with students through virtual tours.
And things of the like um so we're even today for admitted students offering a virtual event since we weren't able to bring students to campus to celebrate their admission to swanee at swanee experience for hosting a virtual event so that'll be something fun for students to tune into.
Alright with That being said thanks again for joining me today it was a pleasure to chat with you and I appreciate the opportunity to share some information about swanee with you I look forward to hopefully welcoming you to campus sometime soon and in the meantime to you and your families please stay well be safe and look forward to connecting with you sometime on campus soon thanks bye.
