2026 Sewanee Young Writers Winter Workshop Recommendation

Dear Colleague,

One of your students is applying for admission to the Sewanee Young Writers' Conference "Winterim" program and has requested that you fill out this recommendation form on their behalf. SYWC Winterim is a six-week, online-only, blended synchronous and asynchronous writing workshop that runs in January and February.

Recommendation forms are due by November 28th. This form should take approximately 15 minutes. Without this form, student applications are considered incomplete.

To ensure that your recommendation form is correctly matched with your student's application, please identify your student by providing the first name, last name and email address exactly as shown in the email we sent you (Subject line: Regarding The Sewanee Young Writers' Winter Workshop).

Once you successfully submit your recommendation form, you will receive a confirmation email from sywc@sewanee.edu. If you don't receive that email within 24 hours of submitting your recommendation, please check your spam folder. If you still can't find it, please email us at sywc@sewanee.edu.

2. Because Winterim is an online program, participants need to be dedicated to forming an inclusive community with peers they'll only interact with over a screen. It's easy to offer a harsh critique to someone you can't see. Please speak to this applicant's character, especially their ability to work collaboratively with others.

3. Because this is an online workshop that overlaps with the school year and extracurriculars, participants need to be self-motivated and able to take this on as an additional commitment in their busy schedule. Please describe any concerns you have about the applicant's ability in this regard.
